EXT. LAGOON - ESTABLISHING SHOT - DAY

Skipper carries a bamboo pole as walks across the sand.

PULL BACK to reveal Professor lashes several bamboo poles together.

PULL BACK to and PAN DOWN to reveal Gilligan digs in the pit.

PROFESSOR

Skipper, give me a hand here, will you?

SKIPPER

Yeah, sure, Professor.

PROFESSOR

This is a wonderful way to protect our food supply. It'll be cool down there.

SKIPPER

Yeah, Gilligan promoted a steamer trunk from the Howells. Figures he'll put all the food in it and drop the whole thing in the pit.

PROFESSOR

It's a wonderful idea. You two men deserve a lot of credit.

SKIPPER

Oh, I can't take any bows this time, Professor. These are all Gilligan's decisions.

GILLIGAN

All except one.

PROFESSOR

What was that?

GILLIGAN

He decided I could do the digging.

SKIPPER

Okay, Gilligan, I'll relieve you.

Skipper extends a hand to help Gilligan climb out of the pit.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Come on.

GILLIGAN

Ahhh, my back, my back.

SKIPPER

What's the matter? Can't you straighten up?

GILLIGAN

No, I'm stuck. I'm stuck.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, you've just got a cramp. I'll fix that.

PROFESSOR

Careful, Skipper.

SKIPPER

Don't worry, Professor, I've done this before.

Skipper grabs Gilligan's arms, wedges his knee in Gilligan's back, and pulls Gilligan's arms back. GILLIGAN'S BACK makes a loud CRUNCH.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Gosh, little buddy, did I hurt you?

GILLIGAN

No, Skipper.

Gilligan reaches into his back pocket and pulls out the remains of seashells. He opens his fingers and allows the broken seashells to fall to the beach.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

I had some seashells in my back pockets.

SKIPPER

I'll dig awhile.

Skipper jumps down into the food pit.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Professor, get Gilligan to help you.

PROFESSOR

Yeah. Get me one of those bamboo rods, will you, Gilligan?

Gilligan brings over a long bamboo rod. Gilligan swings it over the food pit just has Skipper bends down to dig. Standing back up, Skipper tosses a shovelful of soil to the side.

PROFESSOR (cont'd)

No, no, no, no. A short one.

As Gilligan swings the long bamboo rod back to the other side of the food, Skipper bends down to dig again. He strikes something and carefully digs it out.

SKIPPER

Professor. Gilligan.

Skipper pulls the tiki god Kona from the pit.

KONA

SKIPPER (O.S.)

Look what I just dug up.

Skipper wipes the sand off of Kona.

PROFESSOR (O.S.)

Why, it's one of those ancient tiki gods.

BACK TO SCENE

SKIPPER

Right. It's Kona.

GILLIGAN

Kona?

SKIPPER

The god of evil. This must be his ancient burial place. Whoever disturbs his rest is cursed forever.

GILLIGAN

Thanks for taking over the digging, Skipper.

PROFESSOR

Now look, you don't believe these native superstitions, do you?

GILLIGAN

He sure does, Professor. He's always telling me terrible stories about these islands. Sacred gods and curses.

PROFESSOR

Surely, you don't believe in that nonsense, Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

Surely I don't, but I do.

SKIPPER

You'd believe it, too, if you'd seen some of the strange things I've seen.

PROFESSOR

Well, if you're both afraid, I'll do the digging.

SKIPPER

You're welcome to it.

An earthquake rumbles. All three men are shaken. The ground shakes and Skipper and Kona with it. The men tumble and the bamboo rods fall over.

FADE OUT.

END OF TEASER

ACT ONE

FADE IN:

EXT. LAGOON - DAY

The ground shakes along with the men. Skipper holds Kona and stares at it. The ground stops shaking. Skipper climbs out of the food pit.

SKIPPER

Superstitions, eh? It's the curse of Kona, and it's just the beginning.

PROFESSOR

Skipper, little earthquakes are not uncommon on these volcanic islands. The underground gases exert pressure on the substrata formations, causing shifts in the geological striations.

GILLIGAN

Skipper, I agree.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, how could you agree? Did you understand what he said?

GILLIGAN

No, but it's the way he says it.

SKIPPER

Professor, we've got to ward off these evil spirits. I've some charms in the hut that we can --

PROFESSOR

Now look, Skipper, this is the twentieth century and there is no scientific evidence to support any of this superstitious nonsense.

Professor grabs Kona from Skipper and tosses it to the side.

PROFESSOR (cont'd)

Now, let's forget all about the curse of Kona and get back to digging the pit for our food.

SKIPPER

Well, but I --

PROFESSOR

All right, I'll do the digging. You and Gilligan go get some more logs for supports.

Gilligan pulls on Skipper's arm.

GILLIGAN

Come on, Skipper, maybe he's right, huh?

SKIPPER

Okay, but --

RAKE

made out of bamboo sits on the ground.

BACK TO SCENE

Skipper steps on the rake. It flips up and hits Skipper in the face.

GILLIGAN

Skipper, are you all right?

SKIPPER

It's another warning from Kona.

PROFESSOR

stands in the food pit.

PROFESSOR

That's not a warning, Skipper. It's an accident.

BACK TO SCENE

PROFESSOR (O.S.)

The kind of accident that occurs with predictable regularity and statistical frequency.

GILLIGAN

Skipper?

SKIPPER

Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

It's the way he says it.

SKIPPER

Let's go get some logs.

Skipper exits.

GILLIGAN

Boy, you sure got a mouth full of big words.

FLIP TO:

EXT. LAGOON BEACH - DAY

KONA

ZOOM OUT TO REVEAL

Gilligan holds Kona for Skipper. Skipper digs in the food pit to rebury Kona.

GILLIGAN

Well, I sure hope this makes you feel better.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, I'll feel a lot better when Kona's in his original burial place.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The Howells stand at the edge of the jungle, watching Skipper dig in the food pit. Mr. Howell gestures to Mrs. Howell to remain silent.

EXT. LAGOON BEACH - DAY

GILLIGAN

Isn't that deep enough yet?

SKIPPER

No, I'm gonna make it just a little deeper. I don't want to take any chances.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The Howells silently observe Gilligan and Skipper discussing Kona and the food pit.

GILLIGAN

Seems like a lot of trouble for a little statue.

SKIPPER

It's a lot of trouble, but it's worth it.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The Howells hide at the edge of the jungle, watching Skipper and Gilligan bury Kona. They take interest in the statue.

MR HOWELL

(sotto)

Did you hear that, Lovey? That statue must be worth a fortune.

MRS HOWELL

(sotto)

That's probably why they're burying it.

MR HOWELL

(sotto)

There's only one thing to do.

MRS HOWELL

(sotto)

Tell the Professor?

MR HOWELL

(sotto)

No. Take it ourselves.

The Howells crouch down to avoid being observed by Gilligan or Skipper.

EXT. LAGOON BEACH - DAY

Skipper takes Kona from Gilligan and places it at the bottom of the food pit.

SKIPPER

Rest quietly, Kona.

Skipper shovels soil on top of Kona.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

The Howells peer through the foliage.

EXT. LAGOON BEACH - DAY

With his foot, Skipper tamps down the soil over Kona.

SKIPPER

There. That's a load off my mind.

GILLIGAN

We'll put the food locker right on top.

SKIPPER

Exactly, Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

Let's get going before the Professor comes back.

SKIPPER

Yes, he'll never understand.

Skipper climbs out of the food pit. Skipper and Gilligan exit.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

Mr. and Mrs. Howell venture out from the jungle.

EXT. LAGOON BEACH - DAY

The Howells quietly move to the food pit.

MRS HOWELL

Thurston, please hurry.

Mr. Howell picks up a non-bamboo shovel.

MR HOWELL

Good heavens, Lovey, how do you work one of these?

FLIP TO:

EXT. HOWELLS HUT - DAY

Mr. Howell exits their hut, shortly followed by Mrs. Howell and they walk into the clearing.

MR HOWELL

Nothing to worry about now. It's, it's hidden.

MRS HOWELL

Yes, but Thurston, what happens when Gilligan and the Skipper find it missing?

MR HOWELL

Simple. We just accuse the Professor.

MRS HOWELL

(frowning)

Oh, Thurston.

MR HOWELL

Just joking, my dear.

The Howells walk from their hut into the jungle.

EXT. HOWELLS HUT - DAY

Gilligan and the Skipper walk through the jungle toward the clearing and the Howell's hut, reversing the path the Howells took.

GILLIGAN

I wonder if they're home.

SKIPPER

Anybody there?

Gilligan knocks on the door.

GILLIGAN

Anybody there?

SKIPPER

I just said that, Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

Well, they should be back soon. It's getting dark. We should wait.

SKIPPER

Wait? Why should we wait? All we did was come over to get the steamer trunk and they said we could pick that up anytime.

Skipper opens the door to the Howell's hut and steps in, followed by Gilligan.

INT. HOWELLS HUT - DAY

Skipper enters the Howell's hut, quickly looks around and sees the steamer trunk.

SKIPPER

There it is, Gilligan.

Skipper hums as he walks over to the steamer trunk.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Let's get it out of here.

Skipper and Gilligan try to move the steam trunk, but they find it too heavy to move.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Well, I guess the Howells haven't unpacked it yet. Let's empty it out.

GILLIGAN

Oh, look, it's locked.

SKIPPER

Well, there's got to be a key around here some place. Let's start looking for it.

Skipper and Gilligan look around for obvious hiding locations. They bump into each other as they search the hut for the key to the steamer trunk.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Gilligan.

Skipper motions for Gilligan to pass. Gilligan crosses in front of Skipper. Skipper walks over to Mrs. Howell's table. He opens a bamboo purse that sits on the table. Skipper rummages through the purse and looks under it. His attention is drawn to a cabinet behind him. He walks over it the cabinet. Skipper opens the right door of the cabinet and finds nothing unusual. He opens the left door and finds Kona. Skipper quickly shuts the cabinet door and turns around before he realizes that Kona is there. Skipper slowly turns and reopens the cabinet.

KONA

Skipper's mouth is agape. The quickly shuts the cabinet door again.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

I don't believe it.

Not believing his eyes, Skipper opens the cabinet door again, sees Kona, and shuts the door on his hand.

CABINET DOOR

Skipper's fingers are caught in the door.

BACK TO SCENE

Skipper winces in pain.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

I do believe it.

Gilligan walks up.

GILLIGAN

What is it, Skipper?

Skipper pries his hand out of the cabinet door, rubs his injured hand with the other, and motions to the cabinet.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, look in there.

Gilligan opens the cabinet.

KONA

sits on a shelf in the cabinet.

BACK TO SCENE

Gilligan slams the door shut and turns around.

GILLIGAN

How did it get back here?

SKIPPER

I knew it. I knew it. It's the curse of Kona.

GILLIGAN

Maybe you're right.

SKIPPER

Of course I'm right. It's following me. Gilligan, you've got to bury it.

GILLIGAN

Why me?

SKIPPER

Well, I'm the one that has the curse of Kona upon him. Maybe if you bury it, it'll go away.

GILLIGAN

Do I have to?

SKIPPER

Please, Gilligan, little buddy?

GILLIGAN

Okay. Skipper.

Gilligan opens the cabinet door, looks in the cabinet, and quickly slams it shut.

SKIPPER

What's the matter?

GILLIGAN

I don't like the way it looks at me with those big eyes.

SKIPPER

Gilligan.

Gilligan opens the cabinet, places one hand over Kona's eyes, and removes the Kona from the cabinet.

Gilligan exits the Howell's hut.

FLIP TO:

EXT. JUNGLE PATH - DAY

Gilligan walks along the path carrying Kona while holding his hand over its eyes. The earth begins to shake.

Coconuts rain down on Gilligan and pelt him on the head.

GILLIGAN

Stop it, will you? I'm not afraid of you. I don't believe in your curse.

Gilligan briefly removes his hand from Kona's eyes, decides he doesn't like Kona's look again, and places his hand back over Kona's eyes.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Look, I didn't dig you up and I'm putting you back where you belong.

Gilligan partially removes his hand covering Kona's eyes, but replaces it quickly.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Stop staring at me, will you? I got a good mind to throw you in the ocean.

Thunder claps.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

But I won't. I won't. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid.

Lightning strikes a nearby tree and splits it in two, part of which nearly strikes Gilligan.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

I'm afraid!

Gilligan tosses Kona over his head into the jungle behind him.

Gilligan turns and runs.

FLIP TO:

INT. BOYS HUT - DAY

Skipper waits patiently for Gilligan to return. Gilligan enters the hut.

SKIPPER

Did you do it?

GILLIGAN

Yeah, yeah.

SKIPPER

Did you bury him in the right place?

GILLIGAN

Well, kind of.

SKIPPER

What do you mean, "kind of"?

GILLIGAN

Well, it's close enough.

SKIPPER

Next to the pit?

GILLIGAN

Well, it's sorta kind of next to the pit.

Gilligan avoids Skipper's question and walks to a water container.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, did you bury Kona, or did you not?

GILLIGAN

Well, he's better than buried. He's lost.

Gilligan removes the lid from the water container.

SKIPPER

Lost? You mean you didn't bury him? Gilligan, how could you let me down like this?

GILLIGAN

I'm sorry, Skipper, but I was scared.

Gilligan pulls out a cup of water. Skipper presses Gilligan's hand down, preventing him from drinking from the cup.

SKIPPER

Well, where is he?

GILLIGAN

He's out there somewhere. I just threw him and ran.

SKIPPER

"Just threw him and ran"?

Skipper grabs Gilligan's arm. Gilligan replaces the lid on the water container.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Gilligan, you've got to show me where you threw him.

Skipper grabs Gilligan's hand and pulls him to the door.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Come on, Gilligan. Show me.

Skipper swings the door open.

GILLIGAN

Skipper, we'd better take this.

Gilligan grabs a sheathed machete and fumbles with tying it to his belt.

SKIPPER

Never mind that, Gilligan.

FLIP TO:

EXT. JUNGLE PATH - DAY

As Gilligan and Skipper walk along the jungle path, Skipper looks off to his side and doesn't notice Gilligan has stopped to tie his shoelace.

SKIPPER

Which way did you say, Gilligan?

Skipper tumbles over Gilligan. Gilligan helps Skipper to his feet.

GILLIGAN

Sorry, Skipper. I'm sorry. I was just tying my shoelace. My shoe was untied, Skipper.

SKIPPER

All right, Gilligan. I know your shoe was untied. Now, which way did you say?

GILLIGAN

Over to your left, Skipper. Here, I'll lead. I'll show you.

SKIPPER

No. I shall lead. You've done enough for today. Thank you, Gilligan.

Skipper walks ahead and exits. Gilligan ties his shoelace.

SKIPPER (O.S.)

Gilligan! Help, Gilligan!

Gilligan rushes to help Skipper.

EXT. QUICKSAND MARSH - DAY

GILLIGAN

PULL BACK TO REVEAL SKIPPER WAIST DEEP IN QUICKSAND

GILLIGAN

Skipper, what are you doing in there?

SKIPPER

Stay back, Gilligan! It's quicksand!

GILLIGAN

Here. Can you reach me?

Gilligan extends his hand. Skipper tries to grab Gilligan's hand.

SKIPPER

No, I can't reach you!

Skipper sinks further in the quicksand.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Gilligan, you know what's happening?

GILLIGAN

Yeah, you're sinking.

SKIPPER

It's the will of Kona. I'm doomed!

GILLIGAN

I'll go find the statue and bury it. You'll be okay.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, come back here! By the time you bury it, I'll be buried! Do something. Don't just stand there!

GILLIGAN

I'll get some vines. Stay where you are.

SKIPPER

Yeah. Gilligan! Save me! Hurry up!

GILLIGAN

Stay right where you are, Skipper. Don't panic.

SKIPPER

is up to neck in quicksand.

SKIPPER

I'm almost under.

Gilligan's cutting of the vines released one that brushes across Skipper's face.

BACK TO SCENE

GILLIGAN

I'll get you out, Skipper. Hold your breath, Skipper.

SKIPPER

grasps the loose vines and begins to pull himself out of the quicksand.

BACK TO SCENE

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

I'll be right there, Skipper.

SKIPPER

pulls himself out of the quicksand by grasping onto the vines that Gilligan cut. He pulls himself so that he's only half submerged in the quicksand.

BACK TO SCENE

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Don't worry, Skipper, I'm coming. Wait a minute, Skipper. Here I come, Skipper.

QUICKSAND

PULL BACK TO REVEAL

Skipper's cap as the only item visible on the top of the quicksand. Gilligan infers that Skipper has completely sunk into the quicksand.

BACK TO SCENE

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

(to hat)

Thank goodness you finally touched the bottom! I'll get you out! Can you hold your breath a little longer?

SKIPPER (O.S.)

Okay. Gilligan.

Gilligan hacks at the vines he's holding with the machete.

GILLIGAN

These vines got all tangled.

SKIPPER (O.S.)

I'm all right, Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

I'll get you out in a second.

SKIPPER (O.S.)

Gilligan.

Gilligan frantically attempts to cut vines with a machete. Skipper wearily walks up behind Gilligan and tries to get his attention.

GILLIGAN

Look, not now. I'm busy. I got to get the Skipper out of the quicksand.

SKIPPER

Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

Look, I told you I'm busy. My friend is down --

Gilligan turns and notices Skipper

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Oh, hi, Skipper. You got out, huh?

SKIPPER

It won't make any difference. Kona's going to get me sooner or later.

FLIP TO:

EXT. LAGOON - DAY

Gilligan tells the Professor about the events in the jungle as he walks from the lagoon to the food pit.

GILLIGAN

And we looked for Kona all day and all night and couldn't find him. Skipper sure is depressed.

PROFESSOR

Yeah, I wish we could find a way to cheer him up.

GILLIGAN

I know. Let's give him a surprise birthday party.

PROFESSOR

Hey, that's a great idea. When's his birthday?

GILLIGAN

Last month.

PROFESSOR

Last month?

GILLIGAN

Yeah, it'll be a big surprise.

PROFESSOR

You know, you may have something, Gilligan.

FLIP TO:

EXT. JUNGLE PATH - DAY

Mary Ann stumbles upon Kona in the jungle. She picks it up and brings it over to Ginger.

MARY ANN

Look at this. Ginger, look what I found.

GINGER

What is it? Ooh, it's some kind of native carving.

MARY ANN

Well, let's show it to the Skipper. I'll bet he'll know what it is.

GINGER

Wait a minute. This'll be our present.

MARY ANN

Oh, what a great idea. Boy, will he be surprised.

FLIP TO:

EXT. CAMP - DAY

The Castaways gather around their dinner table. Mr. Howell plays the role of conductor in the castaway a Capella symphony. The Castaways stand and sing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" to the seated Skipper. The castaways clap for the Skipper.

GILLIGAN

Feel better, Skipper?

SKIPPER

Thanks to all of you, I feel just fine. I salute every one of you.

GINGER

Did you like the cake?

SKIPPER

Oh, it was wonderful.

MR HOWELL

Well, it must have been. He ate half of it.

PROFESSOR

All right, Skipper. Time to open your presents. That one's from me.

SKIPPER

Why, gee, Professor. Thanks a lot. I can't thank you enough. Something I've always wanted: "The History of Tree Surgery."

Skipper laughs.

PROFESSOR

One of my favorites.

SKIPPER

Well, I'll let everybody read it after I'm through with it.

GINGER

But don't tell us the ending. I love suspense.

GILLIGAN

This one's from me. I hope you like it.

Skipper removes the leafy "wrapping paper" on Gilligan's gift. Gilligan made a pocketknife case out of a bamboo rod. It opens down the middle like a watch case.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, you shouldn't --

Skipper opens the case.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

You shouldn't have, Gilligan, that's your favorite pocketknife. You've been carrying it for years. How come you're giving it to me?

GILLIGAN

It's broken.

MRS HOWELL

Here you are, Skipper. A little gift for your birthday.

SKIPPER

Mister and Missus Howell.

Mr. Howell smiles and looks down sheepishly.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Looks like a gold earring.

MRS HOWELL

It is. I think every sea captain should look like a pirate.

MR HOWELL

Be sure and wear it with basic black.

Professor laughs.

SKIPPER

Certainly, Mr. Howell. Gee, I think this is the nicest birthday party I ever had.

GINGER

You forgot our present, Skipper.

MARY ANN

Here. You'll love it.

Mary Ann hands their gift wrapped in leaves and grasses to Skipper across the table.

SKIPPER

Thanks, girls. Thanks, Gilligan. I just want to say thanks very much. I know I was kind of feeling sorry for myself and pretty low, but it was silly of me to take that stuff so seriously and I -- Well, thanks to all of you, I think everything's going to be...

GIFT-WRAPPED KONA

Skipper unwraps the girls' gift. It is Kona!

SKIPPER (cont'd)

... just fine.

SKIPPER

panics when he sees Kona.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Kona! Kona! Kona!

BACK TO SCENE

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Ah, Kona! Kona!

Skipper exits into the jungle.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT ONE

ACT TWO

FADE IN:

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

Ginger walks through the jungle and comes upon Skipper sitting by himself on a log. Ginger fluffs her hair, walks over to Skipper, and sits down next to him.

GINGER

Here you are. I've been looking all over for you.

Skipper, depressed, turns away from Ginger.

SKIPPER

Why don't you ask Kona? He knows where I am all the time.

Ginger places her hand on Skipper's shoulder in a comforting, yet sexy way.

GINGER

Oh, stop it. You should be ashamed of yourself. You can't quit now.

SKIPPER

I'm not quitting now. I quit three hours ago.

GINGER

Oh, the way you talk.

SKIPPER

It's the way I feel.

GINGER

You know what I think?

Ginger gently touches Skippers chin and turns it toward her.

GINGER (cont'd)

I think that you're forgetting about the six people on this island that really love you.

Ginger releases Skipper's chin and Skipper turns away from her again.

SKIPPER

If I could just forget about that one little guy on this island that hates me.

EXT. LAGOON - DAY

The Professor digs in the food pit while Gilligan holds Kona and covers its eyes.

KONA

BACK TO SCENE

GILLIGAN

Thanks for helping me bury the statue, Professor.

The Professor stops digging and rests on the shovel.

PROFESSOR

There. I guess that's deep enough.

GILLIGAN

A little bit deeper, huh? I want him down so deep he'll get the bends.

PROFESSOR

Gilligan, that statue can't possibly get out of this pit.

GILLIGAN

I don't know, Professor. Every time I throw him away, he comes back. I think that little devil's got boomerang blood.

Gilligan covers Kona's eyes again.

PROFESSOR

Gilligan, put him in the pit.

GILLIGAN

A little bit deeper, please?

The Professor reluctantly begins digging again.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

Skipper and Ginger are seated on the log, as before. Ginger turns her strategy to mild seduction of Skipper. Skipper briefly contemplates her words.

GINGER

You're the kind of man that any young, attractive girl would love to spend the rest of her life with. Why, you're lots of things, Skipper.

SKIPPER

Yes, and I'm doomed, I'm scared, and I'm through.

Skipper gets up from the log, leaving Ginger perplexed, as usually her seduction works.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY

Gilligan and the Professor peer into the food pit.

GILLIGAN

Let's cover up that statue so no one will ever find it.

PROFESSOR

Right.

Both men turn and start shoveling earth into the food pit to cover Kona. Skipper emerges from the jungle, in a depressed, unaware daze. As Gilligan and the Professor move earth into the food pit, Skipper walks unaware directly into the pit.

INT. FOOD PIT - DAY

Gilligan and the Professor continue to shovel earth, which falls on the Skipper. Skipper raises his head and finds that he is face-to-face with Kona. Skipper exclaims in fear and gets up.

EXT. LAGOON - DAY

Skipper and climbs out of the pit and exits.

GILLIGAN

Skipper! Look out for that ...

Gilligan watches Skipper run into a tree and winces in sympathetic pain.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

... tree.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. BOYS HUT - DAY

Skipper lies on a bed, not his usual hammock. His head is bandaged. Skipper groans, grasps his head, and winces in pain.

SKIPPER

My head.

PROFESSOR

Well, his pulse seems to be normal.

SKIPPER

It's no use, Professor. There's nothing you can do for me. I'm a doomed man.

GILLIGAN

Skipper, you just hit your head on a tree. You'll be all right.

SKIPPER

Oh, Gilligan, I keep telling you it's the will of Kona. You just won't believe me.

Skipper groans and grasps his head again.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Oh, my head!

MARY ANN

Oh, isn't there anything we can do?

PROFESSOR

He'll have a bad headache, that's all.

GILLIGAN

My grandmother used to say, "Starve a cold and feed a fever."

PROFESSOR

Gilligan, he's got a bump on the head. He doesn't have a cold and he doesn't have a fever.

GILLIGAN

Yes, but if he gets them, we'll be ready.

PROFESSOR

Let's let him rest awhile. You watch him, Gilligan. Come on, Mary Ann.

Professor grasps Mary Ann's wrist and escorts her toward the door. They meet the Howells at the door. The Howells enter.

MR HOWELL

Mind if we come in? We've been in the waiting room for a while.

PROFESSOR

All right, but don't stay too long.

The Professor and Mary Ann exit and the Howells move over to Skipper's bed.

MR HOWELL

(to Skipper)

Well, old fella -- you look pretty chipper for someone who's cracked his little head wide open.

Skipper turns to them and groans.

MRS HOWELL

Thurston, you'll frighten him. You shouldn't talk like that to someone who's so desperately ill.

PROFESSOR

Come on, folks. Let the Skipper sleep.

The Howells walk back to the door where the annoyed Professor is standing.

MR HOWELL

Well, all right, but he'll never recover if you mollycoddle him.

PROFESSOR

Mr. Howell, have you seen the bruise on the Skipper's head?

MR HOWELL

Have you seen the bruise on that tree? It's horrifying. I ought to notify Smokey the Bear. Come along, Lovey.

Mr. Howell takes Mrs. Howell's hand and they exit through the door.

MRS HOWELL

Bye.

The Professor walks across to Skipper's bed to join Gilligan at bedside.

GILLIGAN

Don't worry, Skipper. You'll be all right.

SKIPPER

It's useless. It's useless. The only one who can save me is Watubi. Only Watubi!

GILLIGAN

Watubi? Who's he?

SKIPPER

The ancient witch doctor. He's the only one who can lift the curse of Kona off me. Watubi! Watubi!

PROFESSOR

Skipper, Watubi is just more native superstition. Watubi doesn't exist.

SKIPPER

Watubi! Watubi!

Gilligan, never having seen Skipper like this, is startled and concerned.

GILLIGAN

Is he all right?

PROFESSOR

It's his mental attitude, Gilligan. He's giving up. He hasn't got the will to go on.

GILLIGAN

Just because he's so superstitious?

PROFESSOR

I'm afraid so. It's just plain fear, Gilligan, just plain fear. Why, if he doesn't snap out of it, he can talk himself into anything.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. BOYS HUT - NIGHT

Gilligan falls asleep and slumps down so his head is next to the Skipper's. Skipper, his head still bandaged, shifts in his sleep until his face is next to Gilligan's forehead. Suddenly, Skipper awakes and realizes that Gilligan has fallen asleep.

SKIPPER

Gilligan.

Skipper finds that Gilligan doesn't stir, so he grows more insistent.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

(yelling)

Gilligan!

GILLIGAN

You want something, Skipper?

SKIPPER

No, but I want to do something for you. Get me my sea chest.

Gilligan moves over to the desk, retrieves the sea chest, and places it down next to Skipper.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

(sotto)

Gilligan?

GILLIGAN

(sotto)

Yeah, Skipper?

SKIPPER

(sotto)

It's on my fingers.

Gilligan moves the sea chest so Skipper can remove his arm from under it.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Gilligan, I don't know how much longer I can hang on -- but I want you to have some of my valuable possessions.

GILLIGAN

Ah, come on, Skipper, don't be silly. You're going to need all your things. You'll be up and around by tomorrow.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, no, I won't. The Watubi didn't come.

GILLIGAN

You've been through worse than this.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, the Watubi didn't come. Now please don't argue. I'm too weak.

Skipper reaches down and picks up his skipper's hat and places it on his chest.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

Do you know what this is?

GILLIGAN

Yeah, your hat.

SKIPPER

It means more than that. It means leadership. After I'm gone, you'll be skipper.

GILLIGAN

Oh, no.

SKIPPER

Put it on.

GILLIGAN

Oh, no, Skipper, you're still the skipper.

SKIPPER

Put it on.

Gilligan removes his own hat and puts on the skipper hat.

GILLIGAN

But there's only one skipper, Skipper. I can never be skipper.

Skipper sizes up Gilligan wearing the skipper hat and realizes that Gilligan is right.

SKIPPER

You're right. Take it off.

Gilligan removes the skipper hat.

GILLIGAN

We do need you.

Gilligan replaces his own hat on his head.

SKIPPER

Gilligan, you've got to be brave and face the facts. I want you to open my sea chest. Some of my most valuable possessions are in there.

Gilligan looks inside the sea chest.

GILLIGAN

Boy, look at all that junk.

Gilligan flings the lid open, which strikes Skipper in the belly.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Sorry, Skipper.

Gilligan lifts the sea chest and moves it to the side.

SKIPPER

Junk? My life is in that chest. That stuff is priceless.

GILLIGAN

A bottle cap?

SKIPPER

Singapore, 1947. From the first bottle of beer I ever opened with my teeth.

GILLIGAN

What did you want to do that for?

SKIPPER

I didn't want to, but some guy hit me in the mouth with the bottle. You can have that too.

GILLIGAN

If you want me to have it.

Gilligan picks up one of the items, a spinning noise-maker.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Hey, I'll bet this has got a lot of memories, huh?

Gilligan spins the noise-maker, making a racket.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

I'm sorry, Skipper. I forgot. Your head.

SKIPPER

Oh, what difference does it make? Take it anyway.

Gilligan removes a spider from the sea chest and places it on the back of his hand.

GILLIGAN

Skipper, what does this remind you of?

SKIPPER

Nothing. It must have just crawled in there.

Startled, Gilligan pulls his hand away, flinging the spider away.

SKIPPER (cont'd)

There's just one more thing. I want you to have this ring.

GILLIGAN

Oh, no, I couldn't take that.

SKIPPER

Please take it.

GILLIGAN

No, I can't.

SKIPPER

Don't argue. Help me get it off.

GILLIGAN

But, Skipper, I really don't think I should take that ring, Skipper.

SKIPPER

(yelling)

Take it!

GILLIGAN

Okay, but I don't want to.

SKIPPER

It's been in the family for over two hundred years.

GILLIGAN

It won't budge.

SKIPPER

Well, keep at it. It's most important that you have it.

GILLIGAN

Sure you want me to have it?

SKIPPER

Yes, Gilligan!

Gilligan tries to position himself so he has leverage.

GILLIGAN

Could you move over a little bit?

Gilligan stands and tugs at the ring, but it won't budge. The Skipper grows irritated.

SKIPPER

Never mind. Maybe we better forget it.

Gilligan climbs up on the bed, straddling Skipper.

GILLIGAN

No, Skipper, I'll get it.

SKIPPER

Never mind, Gilligan.

GILLIGAN

No, Skipper. I'll get it.

Gilligan puts his foot on Skipper's chest and really tugs on the ring, but it remains firmly on Skipper's finger. The Professor enters the hut.

SKIPPER

(yelling)

Gilligan, never mind!

PROFESSOR

Gilligan, what are you doing?

Gilligan climbs down from Skipper's bed

GILLIGAN

Oh, I, uh, Skipper wanted to give me his ring.

PROFESSOR

Skipper, is your head all right?

SKIPPER

I don't know, but my finger's killing me!

PROFESSOR

You'd better get some sleep. Gilligan, you come on outside.

The Professor grabs Gilligan's arm and they exit.

EXT. BOYS HUT - NIGHT

Exiting from the boys hut, the Professor and Gilligan stop just outside to discuss events.

PROFESSOR

Now, Gilligan, what was that all about?

GILLIGAN

He thinks he's done for. He wanted to give me all his possessions.

PROFESSOR

Oh, I was afraid of that. That means he's sinking lower.

GILLIGAN

Yeah, he seemed real disappointed that Watubi didn't come.

PROFESSOR

The Skipper and his silly superstitions.

GILLIGAN

Well, silly or not, I wish Watubi would come, whoever he is.

PROFESSOR

Gilligan, I think I know who Watubi is.

GILLIGAN

Who? Who?

The Professor places his hand on Gilligan's chest. Gilligan realizes the Professor plans for Gilligan to become the witch doctor Watubi.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

Oh.

FLIP TO:

INT. BOYS HUT - DAY

The Professor pulls back the curtain to check on Skipper. Once he sees that Skipper is there, he cues Gilligan to start his act of impersonating Watubi, the witch doctor.

A blast of smoke appears outside the door. Startled, Skipper begins to yell for help.

SKIPPER

Fire! Fire!

SKIPPER (O.S.)

Fire! Fire!

Gilligan, dressed as the witch doctor Watubi, enters the hut. His headdress doesn't fit neatly through the door and Gilligan struggles to get inside. Gilligan/Watubi carries maracas. He is joined by Ginger and Mary Ann, dressed as native girls with elaborate face paint, flowers in their hair, and leis around their necks. Ginger wears a jewel in her navel, but Mary Ann's navel is bare.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

Watubi.

SKIPPER

Watubi. I didn't think you were going to make it.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Gilligan's normal voice)

Neither did I.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI (cont'd)

(in lower Watubi voice)

I mean, Watubi here to lift curse of Kona.

Gilligan/Watubi strikes Skipper's belly with his staff.

SKIPPER

You will?

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

Yes. Magic powder, please.

Gilligan/Watubi grasps powder from a half coconut that Mary Ann holds and throws the powder at Skipper. Gilligan/Watubi grasps powder from a similar half coconut that Ginger holds and throws it in Skipper's face. Skipper sneezes.

GINGER

Gesundheit.

SKIPPER

Thank you!

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

I forgot the chant.

MARY ANN

Oh, gee, so did I.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(sotto, in Gilligan's voice)

Do you remember it? You were supposed to.

GINGER

Sorry. I only had an hour to learn my lines.

SKIPPER

Watubi, what is it? What's the matter?

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Gilligan's normal voice)

We forgot our lines.

Ginger nudges Gilligan/Watubi.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI (cont'd)

(in Watubi voice)

Nothing, my son.

Gilligan/Watubi strikes Skipper in the chest with his staff. Gilligan/Watubi dance around Skipper's bed, chanting, occasionally striking Skipper in the chest with the staff. Ginger and Mary Ann join in and end with a rousing shout.

SKIPPER

reacts to Gilligan/Watubi striking him in the belly.

BACK TO SCENE

GILLIGAN/WATUBI/GINGER/MARY ANN

Hey!

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

The curse is lifted. You are well again.

SKIPPER

I am? I don't feel any better.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

More magic powder.

Gilligan takes the magic powder coconut cup from Mary Ann and dumps it all in Skipper's face. Gilligan takes the other magic powder coconut cup from Ginger and dumps that on Skipper's face too.

SKIPPER

Skipper's face is unevenly covered with powder. Skipper struggles to open his eyes due to the caked on powder.

BACK TO SCENE

Gilligan/Watubi dances around the hut, making unintelligible sounds. Ginger and Mary Ann join him in the rhythmic chanting.

CUT TO:

EXT. BOYS HUT - DAY

The Howells listen to the events inside the hut. The Professor listens from his spot near the window.

INT. BOYS HUT - DAY

Gilligan/Watubi, Ginger, and Mary Ann continue their native dance, which comes to a big conclusion.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI/GINGER/MARY ANN

Ole!

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

Curse is lifted. Get out of bed.

SKIPPER

I -- I can't. I can't.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

Listen to me. I am great "Watumbi."

MARY ANN

(quietly scolding)

Watubi.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

Get out of bed! You are cured! Arise! I command it!

The earth shakes and rumbles.

SKIPPER

Skipper's eyes open wide at the power of Watubi.

BACK TO SCENE

The girls scream.

GINGER

How did you do that?

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Gilligan's voice)

I don't know. I guess somebody up there likes me.

SKIPPER

Watubi. I was wrong. Your powers are greater than Kona.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Watubi voice)

Arise! I command it!

The earth shakes violently again and Skipper falls out of his bed onto the floor. The girls scream while the earth shakes. Skipper rises to his knees.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI (cont'd)

(in Watubi voice)

You will walk now or Watubi will make earth tremble again.

MARY ANN

Oh, Gilligan, don't press your luck.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Watubi voice)

Quiet! I am the great "Watoombi!" Walk! Walk! Walk!

Gilligan/Watubi shakes his maracas. The Skipper rises from his knees to a shaky standing position. Skipper is excited that he's regaining his strength.

SKIPPER

I'm doing it. It's working!

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Watubi voice)

Watubi never fails.

Skipper, still bandaged and face covered in magic powder, walks excitedly around the bed.

SKIPPER

I'm cured! Professor, everyone! I'm cured!

Skipper exits the boys hut.

EXT. BOYS HUT - DAY

The Skipper excitedly jumps around exclaiming his cure from the curse of Kona.

SKIPPER

Everyone, I'm cured! I'm cured! Look, I can walk again.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI

(in Gilligan's voice)

I did it! Look how happy he--.

Gilligan sees Skipper heading for a palm tree and tries to warn Skipper.

GILLIGAN/WATUBI (cont'd)

(yelling, in Gilligan's voice)

Skipper, Look out for that--

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT TWO

TAG

FADE IN:

EXT. DINNER TABLE - DAY

The Castaways mill around the dinner table, preparing to serve a meal.

Gilligan walks over to Skipper, head still bandaged, who is reclining in a chaise lounge chair. Gilligan hands Skipper a glass with a cool beverage.

GILLIGAN

Feel any better, Skipper?

SKIPPER

Oh, this awful heat. I wish we could do something. I guess I'm still weak. I think I'll go in and lie down awhile.

Skipper struggles to get out of the chair.

GILLIGAN

Let me help you, Skipper.

Gilligan offers his hand to Skipper.

SKIPPER

Thanks, Gilligan.

With Gilligan's help, Skipper rises and walks over toward the boys hut.

PROFESSOR

Yes, you'd better get some rest, Skip.

SKIPPER

Thanks, Professor.

Skipper walks out of frame.

Ginger and Mrs. Howell fan themselves to relieve the heat.

MARY ANN

(to Gilligan)

Gilligan, you were wonderful.

MRS HOWELL

If he is so wonderful, why doesn't he do something about this heat?

GILLIGAN

Maybe I will.

PROFESSOR

Oh, don't get carried away, Gilligan. Those earthquakes were a coincidence.

GILLIGAN

Coincidence? What do you mean? I've got the power.

MR HOWELL

All right, Watubi, let's have a nice, cool breeze.

GILLIGAN

Okay, a nice, cool breeze.

Gilligan raises his arms and shouts to the sky.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

(in a strong voice)

I am the great Gilligan!

PROFESSOR

Stop that, Gilligan.

Gilligan is slightly annoyed at the Professor's skepticism.

GILLIGAN

Okay, one nice, cool breeze.

He tries again.

GILLIGAN (cont'd)

(in a strong voice)

I am the great Gilligan! I command it!

Nothing happens.

MR HOWELL

I don't feel any breeze.

MRS HOWELL

Neither do I.

MR HOWELL

The kid is a faker. Blood will tell.

Suddenly, a gale force wind blows on the Castaways. Except for Gilligan, they abandon the dinner table for their huts.

Gilligan hangs onto a palm tree as the wind blows his body.

Gilligan holds on and the wind blows his feet straight out so he hangs on with his body perpendicular to the tree trunk. The wind blows his hat off.

GILLIGAN

GILLIGAN

I guess I overdid it.

(sheepishly)

A little.

BACK TO SCENE

Gilligan holds onto the tree for dear life.
