Ahoy There Maties! Welcome to newsletter #68 of the Official Gilligan's Island Fan Club. We are still trying to get the whole series on DVD, and it's really not working out too well. HOWEVER, there is a site that all of us can go to and vote to get it on DVD! This site is at http://www.tvshowsondvd.com. Gilligan's Island is currently 70th (use to be 105th) place and voting for the show is free! If all of us get together, the rating should get close to the top. We need about another 500 votes in order to get noticed! Please, even if you don't want the DVD, do this for the club. This is the ONLY way I know to get the show on DVD. There is over 3,000 or you, and if everybody votes, we would get attention before Christmas. Please tell all of your friends to help out too. We will also add a link at the top of our main page so newcomers can go there too. Please vote for the Gilligan's Island Series! OCTOBER Thurs.9@ 7:30 Fri.10@ 7:30 Sat.11@tba Thurs.16@7:30 Fri.17@7:30 Sat.18@2:30 AND 7:30 Dawn Wells is coming to Tennessee! (From Tammy Sharp) Dawn Wells will be a guest for a tv/movie/toy convention called Adventurecon. The website is www.adventurecon.com and ours is www.sharpiesautographs.com. It is usually held in Knoxville, but the expo center was booked for Oct., so it will be held October 3-5 at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Dawn will be appearing Saturday and Sunday only - Oct 4-5. We are so EXCITED that we were able to get her to come to Tennessee. She does not do a lot of shows, so we are very lucky! She lived in Nashville for a while, so maybe that had something to do with it. We would appreciate it if you could spread the word. She along with other celebrity guests will be meeting with fans, signing autographs and selling her merchandise. Most of the celebrities charge around $20 per autograph. It is free to have your photo taken with them. Yvonne Craig-Batgirl, Jeremy Bulloch-Boba Fett Star Wars, George Lazenby-James Bond and Danielle Harris from Halloween are the other guests that are appearing. Thank you and love your website!! Tammy Sharp Phone/fax 865-220-0847 tsharp39@comcast.net Does anybody know where the first season Gilligan's Island was filmed? Somebody out there must know. I've tried to ask the cast, and even they don't know. We already know that the 2nd and 3rd season was Coconut Island in Kauai. There is a fellow named Pat Tritle and he is a custom model builder. He recently kicked it up a notch and built an incredible 'remote control' model of, what else, the S.S. Minnow! When I saw his creation my mouth nearly dropped to the ground, just like I did when I saw Tongo's so-called mother! The detail is amazing! I still can't believe it when I see it! You must look at the page we added for him. Seeing is believing! http://www.gilligansisle.com/minnowrc.html And now the moment we've all been waiting for, Ohio's Promoter Sarah Gravlee's Gilligan's Island Musical review! Ohio review Sarah Gravlee Gilligan's Island review 8/16/03 When the lights dimmed before the show and producer Jay Rumple (who also played the Professor) came out to make opening remarks he congratulated the audience for being the first audience to see the first amateur production of Gilligan's Island the Musical. And that's what it was--an amateur production with a lot of heart. Although parts of this show seemed a bit reminiscent of a high school musical, that was where its charm laid. The Village Players of Hicksville, OH, put on this very low budget, very entertaining version of Gilligan's Island the Musical to raise funds for The Huber Opera House. The lack of carpet, adequate lighting, or a legitimate air conditioning system in this venue illustrated how badly the theater needed a face lift. Though the theater is a bit rustic, it is perfect for a production on Gilligan's Island the Musical. After all, our poor castaways were without phones, lights and motorcars for fifteen years. To GI fans, this musical is like a long lost episode of their beloved television show. It combines parts of many GI episodes, but also brings in an entirely new aspect with music and dance. It was an amateur performance, but the cast stayed very professional through sound difficulty and sweltering heat. Peter Greer's portrayal of the skipper was so accurate that at times I truly believed Alan hale himself was on stage. The rest of the cast picked up some of their characters' mannerisms very well, but Greer was the star of the show. Congratulations to this small cast in a small town for putting on a great show. It is refreshing to see a classic Television show in a new media. If anyone is in the Ohio/Indiana region, stop by and see this show. Now it's time for another restaurant review. Gilligan's Clam Bar and Grill Reviewed by Dennis Chansky Something called buzz led us to two relatively new places in northern Rockland. The fact that they are complementary establishments led us to try them on the same night out, and what a night out they gave in return. Gilligan's is an adorable clam bar and seafood restaurant attached to the well-known C & M fish market on Route 202. The owners of C & M were willing to risk their pristine reputation as fish retailers by exposing their flank as seafood chefs. And have they come up smelling like roses. The menu has a finished llook to it, like the best effort of a large franchise — compact, glossy, clever and with reasonable prices on fish you take on faith to be fresh from the showcase in the fish market next door. For instance, a dozen medium-size top-neck clams are only $7.95, and they're delivered pronto. At that price, why resist the urge to have a dozen yourself or to order a second dozen? The next great discovery came from the fried scallops dinner ($9.95) made from over half of a pound of "dry" scallops — that is, scallops not processed with water or chemicals, which can have a soggy texture. These sea scallops we were served were nicely fibrous and exceptionally sweet, adding up to an all-time bargain. Gilligan's Buffalo calamari ($6.95) is crispy breaded and fried calamari, extra tender and fresh, doused in authentic Buffalo-style hot sauce cut with melted butter. While slightly salty, it is a most pleasurable item. Stuffed mushrooms ($5.95) were a success. Although very shyly seasoned, they had a strong presence of thread-like white crab meat. Mussels in white wine and garlic ($5.95) were not as good as the other seafood, slightly small with a decent herbal brine that would have been enriched with a larger touch of olive oil or butter. Soups were outstanding, but when was the last time you needed to add salt to a seafood soup? The extra-creamy lobster bisque, smooth buttery New England clam chowder and the chunky thick Manhattan clam chowder were all washed of any salt, to an almost unnatural extent. Cape Cod Imperial ($15.95) was a broiled platter covered with a small lobster tail, some lovely scallops, shrimp and a slice of flounder fillet baked under buttery crumbs. Its impeccable freshness caused the fillet to outshine the other items on the plate. Grilled grouper ($10.95) was cut from small grouper, not giant ones that give thick slabs of fillet. Grilled over an open flame, it was perfectly moist inside and nicely charred outside. Shrimp fra diavolo ($9.95) was a heaping bowl of linguine in hot red sauce loaded with minced garlic and redolent of fruity olive oil. The shrimp were small but plentiful, but the pasta was cooked without much salt in the water, which made the dish a little flat. Crab Feast ($29.95) was a platter of king crab legs, snow crab legs and Dungeness crabs from the Pacific. The meaty Dungeness might catch on in these parts better if Gilligan's served it cleaned of internal organs and bile the way they do on the West Coast. Service is informal but efficient, and the good news is that the backyard Tiki Bar is being enclosed in a heated tent to house those waiting for tables in this diminutive new restaurant. Gilligan's Restaurant in New York. (Mitch S.) Yet another restaurant! Food was good although the only true GI reference was the GI Cookie Jar behind the bar. Otherwise it's just decorated tropical with no signs of the Castaways.
