Ahoy Maties! Welcome to the January 2001 edition of the Gilligan's Island Fan Club! Back in the 60's they were saying that in the year 2001 everybody would have a flying car and half of us would be living on the moon because of over-population. Boy, I can't wait to get off this island so I can have a flying car of my own too! We hope everybody had a great Christmas and Happy New Year! We sure did, even though we never got rescued. Hopefully soon. For New Years, the Professor made some excellent fireworks from ingredients in Mary Ann's garden and packed the explosives in coconut shells. Then he built a sling shot and lit up the lagoon. It was a blast! Celebrity Sightings!!! Judith Baldwin (she played Ginger in the 'Reunion' Movies) will be appearing at the Hollywood Collectors show January 20 and 21 at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn right down the street from Universal Studios. It's $10 to get in daily and the celebrities charge about $10 an item or photo signed. Lou Ferrigno and Eddie Munster will be there, among others. Anybody in the Los Angeles area should definitely go! Check out their web site here: http://www.hollywoodcollectorshow.com There is a new paperback out called the "Gilligan's Island Trivia Challenge." Our own Thurston Howell III tells us that he saw a Gilligan's Island play that was put on by a group in New Orleans called "Running With Scissors". The play was called "Gilligan's Island Survivor." This group apparently puts on plays where they mix two TV shows or movies. Also on the bill that night was "The Scooby Witch Project". The show was very good. They had Gilligan guest stars come and run Survivor-like competitions with the castaways. They had Harold Hecuba, Eva Grub, a head hunter, etc. There were the songs from Hamlet and The Honeybees. The play was running through the month of December on Friday and Saturday nights. The address was 511 Marigny, New Orleans. The phone was 504-944-0771. They didn't seem intimidated at all that I was in the audience. :) [Ed Note: This information was given to me after the last newsletter was sent out and I was unable to alert you. Sorry] Mark Bennett wrote a book about the layout of TV shows. He mapped out Gilligan's Island and the whereabouts of everything. Interesting. You can see it here: http://hotwired.lycos.com/gallery/96/50/f.html A new Gilligan's Island theme has been added to our page. It's by a fellow named Donnie. You can hear the midi at: http://www.gilligansisle.com/midi.html Remember Thurston Howell's son? He appeared once in "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island." Well it turns out that he's not a Republican after all! See for yourself: http://www.self-gov.org/celebs/Ruprecht.html Do we have any artists out there that would be willing to make us some Gilligan-related artwork? If so, we'll use it on our page for thousands of people to view. Currently our site gets more than 5,000 hits per week. WOW! More comic strips! Bush Meets Gilligan created by C.D. Norman http://home.att.net/~cdnorman/pictures/george/dec27.html And Al Gore sent by Ed! http://www.gilligansisle.com/comics.html We just added a credit page to our site, and it lists every movie, tv show and tv appearance that the cast did before and after Gilligan's Island. Mr. Howell had by far the most, with the Skipper pulling in second place. http://www.gilligansisle.com/credits.html Let's all CHAT this Saturday, Jan 6th!
