Ahoy There Maties! Welcome to the November edition of the Gilligan's Island Fan Club. Well, we finally did it! We have our own domain name for the club. Since other choice domains were taken, the closest one we could find was www.gilligansisle.com. If you are running Netscape, all you need to do is type gilligansisle. If you are using Internet Explorer, then unfortunately you must type it all (www.gilligansisle.com). We are still working on a fixed domain, as when gilligansisle is entered, it only takes you to our current page. You'll see when you try it. Also I have another e-mail address which is at gilligan@gilligansisle.com. Use whichever e-mail address you want as I can still be reached at gilligan@san.rr.com. Hopefully we will add another feature and make the surfing a little more professional with a full domain and page search engine. Feel free to advertise our site at: www.gilligansisle.com. Looking for volunteers for the web page. We need a Skipper, Professor, Thurston, and a Lovey. These four selected people will have their e-mail's on the main page so folks can contact them for answers to their questions, comments, ect... They would also be responsible for promoting the web site to any page or search engine out there that might have use for such a link. In addition, the selected will do small tasks when called upon (trivia, info gathering, newsletters, ect...) Most likely all you will really do is answer questions from people who write to you. In order to be accepted, you need to have all or most of the books, all or most of the episodes on tape, and you really need to know your Gilligan stuff. You will also need everything on our site to work on your computer (.wav's, realaudio and video, midi's, everything). Web TV is out of luck as I don't think they can view Real Video and Audio). If you are interested and think that you are a Gilligan know-it-all, drop me an e-mail. Russell Johnson (Professor) has his biography up on our main page. Everything you wanted to know about him is here, including his war days, and other shows he appeared in. Pretty interesting if you're a Professor nut. Finally, information on the Gilligan's Island radio used in the show! We have gathered all of the facts we could (which isn't much) but interesting never the less. You can see it on our site at: http://home.san.rr.com/gilligan/radio.html Did you dress up as a member of Gilligan's Island for Halloween this year? If so, float us a picture so that we can add it to the site. This should be interesting. New banners have been created by fan club member Ralph Campbell, and I might add that they are fantastic! One way to promote Gilligan's Island is to add one of these to your page, or any other page that might be interested. http://home.san.rr.com/gilligan/banners.html Did you go to the Oct 20th Cruise with the four castaways? If so, I would love to hear about it, and please send pictures if you have them so I can post them here on the site. Katiedog writes, "I heard that some cable station out here in the New England area was canceling reruns of Gilligan's Island because of the Bob Denver marijuana incident...That's all I know. Not sure what station, local or national. Maybe someone else has heard more about this." I have not heard anything myslef, but maybe somebody on the East Coast can enlighten us. _____________________________________________________________________________ And now for some Internet News! These URL's have been brought to my attention and I thought that I would share them with you. Special thanks goes to all who kept me informed. If you own a Palm Pilot, then this site is a must! Josh Aversa, the creator of the segment has done a wonderful job in creating a Gilligan's Island theme! http://members.xoom.com/PPilot/Gilligan/ Want a picture of the whole cast with their original autographs? The price may be a little steep, but for ALL of the castaways? http://www.wallsoffame.com/html/television_51.html You can spend a vacation at Gilligan's Island according to this site. http://www.copamarina.com/b05.html This is where the S.S. Minnow took off from Hawaii. http://www.hawaiicam.com/features/factoid/index.html There's even a Gilligan Titanic song http://www.wnok.com/mrtitan04.html Purchase Mary Ann's Cookbook here: http://204.127.237.108/c_2455.htm This guy doesn't think that Willy was Gilligan's first name. http://snopes.simplenet.com/radiotv/tv/gilligan.htm It has been brought to my attention that a song was played on Dr. Demento several years ago called "La Isla Gilligan" and was sung by Guns n' Moses. If anybody has that song, could you please let me know so I can put it up for all to listen to? More info about the Oct 20th cruise here: http://www.cbs.com:80/prd1/now/template.display?p_story=88835&p_who=network The castaways were awarded the American Icon Award. Go here for details: http://www.foxnews.com/js_index.sml?content=/news/wires2/1021/n_ap_1021_74.sml WASHINGTON (Reuters) - This time they made it back from their three-hour cruise. The surviving cast members of "Gilligan's Island" -- Bob Denver, Tina Louise, Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson -- reunited Tuesday night for a Potomac River cruise on which they were honored with American Icon awards by Women in Film & Video. Denver, Wells and Johnson long ago accepted the fact that they will always be linked to the '60s show but not Louise. She usually doesn't even take part in such reunions and The Washington Post says she doesn't list "Gilligan's Island" on her resume. "It's a part I played," she said. "I'm not with it like all of you people. I don't get it. My most important role is as a mother." Here comes the gripes! (I saved it for the end) There are some of you out there that have put me in your special mailing list. Although I appreciate the invitations, I simply don't have the time to sort through all of the 'check this out' e-mails out there. This site receives approximately 35 e-mails a day, and by sorting through a bunch of 'get rich' schemes and chain letters, it keeps me from answering urgent e-mails in a timely matter. Thankx for thinking of me tho', and by all means, I'm not talking about those people who keep me updated on events in the news and on the web. We have 1,800 members worldwide, and with all of that brain power, somebody has to know something. If you hear or see anything out there Gilligan-Related please let me know. I've brought it up before, and I'll bring it up hopefully one last time. If you are on AOL or Web TV and change your account or delete or quit that service, please inform me of such a change. The last newsletter returned 50 AOL and Web TV addresses. I dread sending out newsletters these days because I know I will get a ton of returns, and I have to delete those ONE by ONE. (Yuk) I must add that this is VERY time consuming. (Ahhhhhh.....I feel better now) If any of you get this newsletter twice, please let me know. That's about it for now. Mary Ann and I found this neat pancake syrup and it holds as strong as glue! I'm gonna spread it over the entire Minnow now. Hopefully this will make the boat strong enough to make it back to Hawaii.
